London – One day itinerary

Do you find yourself in London just for one day and do not know what to do? Don’t worry, you are in the right place to plan your amazing one day itinerary. In November 2019 I was in the same situation like you: how to make the most from just one day. Much of the London attractions close between 4pm and 6pm, therefore make sure to check each one individually. If you want to enter specific attractions be sure to visit their websites and buy tickets way before your visit: London can be full with tourists in some certain periods of year.Travelling to London for the first time? If yes, then please do take into account the following tips& tricks:

  1. Try to stay in central London.
  2. Don’t try too see everything
  3. Visit London’s free attractions
  4. Use public transport
London city

First impressions

London is a very beautiful city and I think that you should spend between three and five days in order to visit the main attractions and have time to actually enjoy the city. Being one of the of the world’s most famous capital cities, the public transport in London is just amazing: contactless payments, safe and reliable taxis, public buses or subway from and to the major airports in London. People are very friendly, the beer is very good and you have a lot of tourist attractions to be visited

One day itinerary

Start your day at 9:00am with the London Tower. Go straight to crown jewelry if you want to avoid the crowds and take a good look at them. The crown jewelry is the main attraction of the Tower and you must make sure to spend as much time as you would like, without too many people around you(You can’t take photos or video of the crown jewelry)

After the crown jewelry you have to be at 10 am,nearby the entrance. Why should I be there, you might ask yourself? Because you should really take the Yeoman tour(their tours run every half and hour). Before saying that tours are boring and why should I spend an hour from my only day in London with a tour,I must confess that I had asked myself the same question when a friend had told me about the tours.

I am not a tour fan, mainly because most of them are dull, just sharing some info that you can easily find it on the internet. To a certain degree, the finding part applies to this tour as well, however the guide are former military soldiers that are very knowledgeable and as a bonus they have a great sense of humor(not typical British humor if you ask me). After the tour I recommend to continue with other inside attractions like the White tower. If you fell in love with this place you should check the other tours as well that are taking part in the area(the downside is that by this time this attraction is going to be quite crowded).

And now ,you have to make a tough call:  what to choose next?! London is a city with many attractions, that unfortunately do not have the best opening and closing hours. My proposal is to either visit the London Bridge or if the weather is lovely to go the Kensington palace and combine it with the London Coca Cola eye (Unless you are a museum fan,and you want to go to Madam Tussauds or to London dungeons). If you got tired and want to have a drink and a meal,I think you have plenty of choices: From the ‘traditional’ fish and chips to specific cuisines,or maybe to a Michelin restaurant.

If you do not mind walking, then you can go next to the Buckingham palace and take a look from outside. From there you can take a ten minutes walk to the Trafalgar square-it is an interesting square, with fountains and lion statues.Talking about museums I do recommend the British Museum: it is a free attraction,it has a lot of antics and is it close to harry potter fan shop(around 25 minutes by foot). If you are a Harry Potter fan and want to take a picture at the famous 9 3/4 you have two choices:one is to join the queue and wait for your turn to have a picture or go at the station after 10 pm,when the shop is closed and have as many pictures as you like for free(I went twice there-one time to visit to shop and take some souvenirs and one time to goof around and take a lot of pictures).

I have almost forgotten the fact that you can always go watch a football game – there are quite a few nice stadiums in London, where you can watch either local teams like Chelsea,Arsenal or even the national team of England .

Just a few more tips:

  • Book your tickets before arrival as soon as you have a clear picture of your vacation
  • Use the metro tube if you are in a rainy day,or from airport or just to save time
there are a lot of unmentioned London attractions
  • For a good London trip in my opinion you should have three days-less than three days is just to get a good glimpse of London
  • If you join the Yeoman tour with your kids, take into account that several violent stories are going to be told(you are warned at the beginning of the tour as well
